The Chora Museum, originally a Byzantine church, was built in the 11th century by the mother-in-law of Alexius I Comnenus, converted into a mosque in the 16th century and reconverted into a museum for good in 1958. Its walls and ceilings are adorned with some of the world’s finest mosaics and frescoes.
